TULARE – Employees striving to become supervisors will inevitably learn a lot along the way. Fortunately the College of the Sequoias Training Resource Center is trying to help some employees speed up the process. Next month they will be offering two Front Line Supervisory Academies.

The first cohort will meet on Tuesdays and start on May 1. The second cohort will be on Thursdays and will start on May 3. Both trainings will take place on the COS Tulare Center Campus. These will be all day trainings and they will meet 6 days total.

Local employers have been calling for a more skilled workforce that has “technical skills” such as those necessary for a maintenance mechanic position, but also “soft skills”, such as communication and leadership skills needed to effectively work in our culturally and generationally diverse workforce.

These trainings are designed for anyone in a supervisory role or aspiring to be in one. The class will focus on soft skills training in areas such as interpersonal skills, communication, teamwork, cultural  and generational diversity, conflict resolution, coaching, motivation, organization, problem solving and delegation. Previous attendees have said the following about this training:

“There was real life work-related experience. All subjects were important. Conflict was important because we deal with it on a daily basis”

“I learned different techniques of handling personalities, coaching, conflict, problem solving, and change”

This training is $649 for each person. However, it will be no cost for eligible companies who choose to utilize ETP funding. The ETP training reimbursement program is not a grant. The Employment Training

Panel (ETP) is a business- and labor-supported agency that assists employers by providing funds to off-set the costs of job skills training necessary to maintain high performance workplaces. It is entirely funded by the Employment Training Tax paid by California employers.
