Supervisors appoint Freitas assessor/clerk-recorder

Tara Freitas takes over for Roland Hill as Tulare County’s assessor, clerk-recorder

VISALIA – The Tulare County Board of Supervisors wasted little time to appoint a new assessor/clerk-recorder after Roland Hill retired this year.

At their April 6 board meeting supervisors appointed Tara Freitas as Hill’s successor.

“I am confident that with Tara’s background and her history with Tulare County, she is going to continue to serve the community members of Tulare County well,” board chair Amy Shuklian stated. “With her financial background and focus on fiscal responsibility, as well as the emphasis she places on efficiency and respect for the taxpayer dollar, her leadership will greatly benefit the assessor’s office.”

“I look forward to working with Tara in her new role. Her unique and well-rounded perspective will serve our county well,” CAO Jason T. Britt stated,

Freitas has been with the auditor-controller/treasurer-tax collector’s office since being hired in 2008 and promoted to her current position as assistant auditor-controller in 2017. Freitas has contributed to improving the office’s customer service by making processes more efficient and transparent, all while staying under budget. She looks forward to taking that expertise with her as she works to achieve similar goals within the assessor/clerk recorder’s office.

The assessor’s office is tasked with assessing the values of property within the county and preparing the tax roll that the auditor’s office then uses to set tax rates and collect property tax payments from the county’s constituents. Tara’s knowledge of the process and relationships built from her experience at the auditor’s office has prepared her for the responsibilities and technical skill set needed for the position and for the strong relationship needed between the two departments.

Tara was born and raised in Tulare County and is committed to serving the county and its constituents. She grew up in Three Rivers, attended high school in Exeter, and currently resides in Visalia with her husband, Garrick, and two children, Logan and Blair.
