Last Monday Nov. 10 only 90 of the 200 seniors at Exeter Union High School attended class.
There wasn't a field trip for seniors and it's unlikely that 110 seniors were suddenly sick on the same day. Last Monday was an unofficial holiday for the class of 2004 commonly known as senior ditch-day.
Though senior ditch-day is a tradition that has gone on for generations the consequences of that many absences on one day are far greater now than they were before. EUHS receives $30 for each student every day for their Average Daily Attendance. The school is currently at a 97 percent ADA. That is a loss of $229,594 for one month.
At $30 per student the school potentially lost more than $3,000 last Monday.
