The Exeter Union School District and Exeter Union High School District named their Teachers of the Quarter at Monday's joint board meeting.
Dan Crookham, a teacher in the EUHS ag department was named the EUHS Teacher of the Quarter. Board member Marlene Sario, who also happens to be Crookham's sister-in-law, presented him with a Golden Apple and certificate of achievement for his hard work.
"He is a solid representative for and model of what the Exeter High School School Vocational Education program is all about," Sario said. "He is often asked for advice by his peers and is known for his common sense approach."
Crookham has been at EUHS for 15 years and is currently the teachers association president. He said he started teaching because he thought it would be fun and adds that it has been.
"I'm thankful to work with dedicated and hard working staff and enthusiastic and motivated students at the EUHS ag department," he said.
Crookham and his wife Karrie have two sons, Connor, 6, and Ryan, 5. He said the family enjoys four-wheel-drive trips in the Bronco and snow skiing.
Patty Bietz was recognized by board member Dean Sutton as the EUSD Teacher for the Quarter. Bietz teaches at Lincoln Elementary School and has been an educator for 14 years. She was presented with a Golden Bell and a $200 stipend to go towards materials for her classroom.
"Patty uses informal observations as well as math and language arts data to plan more effective ways for teaching concepts," Sutton said. "She began [last] year with five students reading above grade level. At the conclusion of the year that number had doubled."
Bietz has been married for 31 years and has one son, Jason, who is employed as a police officer in Corcoran. She said that even after 14 years she still looks forward to work.
"I feel so blessed to have found a career I really love," she said. "My day is never boring."
