Many students would jump at the opportunity to do less school work instead of more. But students at Rocky Hill Elementary are doing exactly the opposite.

In fact they compete for the chance to spend more time at school learning about math.

The Mathematical Olympiad is an extracurricular activity for elementary and middle schools that students at Rocky Hill have been participating in for 15 years. As olympiad members students practice math strategies during the week and take a test once a month. These students are competing against 3,000 teams from across the nation and from 28 different countries.

"To get just one of these problems correct is cause for celebration," Dillon said.
