Mayor Ed Murray and Lindsay Unified School District Board President Mercy Herrera dusted off their aprons to help serve breakfast to the students at Lincoln Elementary School in an effort to promote national school breakfast week.

The school breakfast program is provided by the Tulare County Office of education's Nutrition Network for Healthy, Active Families.

The Nutrition Network is designed to educate students, parents and teachers about the role of proper nutrition and physical activity in developing a healthier lifestyle. Since 1975 the School Breakfast Program, a federally funded nutrition program has brought the educational, social and health benefits of breakfast to a growing number of school children across the county. Increasing numbers of scientific studies demonstrate that school breakfast is effective in helping children maximize their academic opportunities while also developing smart eating habits and promoting physical and mental health.

Dr. Alan Myers from Boston University School of Medicine confirmed that when students participated in the school Breakfast Program, there were significant improvements in test scores as well as lower levels of tardiness and improved attendance rates.
