Sunnyside holds public hearing on facility fees

The governing board of the Sunnyside Union Elementary School District will conduct a public hearing, at which oral and written presentations can be made, concerning the proposed adoption of fees on residential, commercial and industrial development occurring with in the boundaries of the district.

The purpose for the increase is to fund the construction or reconstruction of school facilities. The public hearing will take place at a regular board meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 at the Sunnyside school library, 21644 Ave. 196 in Strathmore.

Education Code section 17620 and Government Code Section 65995 authorize the governing board of a school district to levy a fee in the maximum amount of $2.24 per square foot of assessable space for residential development and to $.36 per square foot for commercial and industrial development.

At the public hearing the governing board will consider whether to adopt a fee to be levied on residential, commercial and industrial development occurring within the boundaries of the district.

The fees would increase to the maximum amounts authorized by law for the purpose of funding the construction or reconstruction of school facilities. In this regard, the board will receive a justification study supporting the adoption of fees in the district.

The justification study supporting the adoption of the proposed fees is available for review by the general public during normal business hours at the district office. Anyone interested can contact the District Office located at 21644 Ave. 196 or can call 568-1741.

The public is invited to review the justification study and submit oral or written comments, either prior to or at the public hearing.
