Armando Solis: Youth of the Year

He has an impressive list of accomplishments, starting with being No. 1 in his class with a 4.29 GPA.

Tammy Hellwig, a science teacher and Key Club advisor at Lindsay High School introduced LHS senior Armando Solis as 2004 Youth of the Year at the 93rd Awards Banquet presented by the Lindsay Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Jan. 22.

He included Solis' accomplishments, which included the following: Academic All-League (2), Captain, Outstanding Lineman, and second Team All-League in football. Basketball Coach's Award, Volleyball captain, Key Club public relations president, Drama Club performer in "Once Upon a Mattress," CSF president, Block L secretary/treasurer, French Club president, and Student Government Class President for two years and ASB Vice President.

Solis also took part in community service by being part of Tree Planting in Schools program, involving himself in Key Club, Kiwanis, and by participating in many activities at Sacred Heart Catholic church.

While also making time to be on the Prom Committee. After proving himself to his school and his community Hellwig, announced to the audience. "OK Armando, you can come on up," as an instructor might.

"I have been lucky enough to have him as a student. He's just the most amazing kid. Armando represents the cream of the crop."

Apparently not a big talker, Armando's response was simply, "Thank you everybody." Excellent work Armando Solis! What a role model!
