Students may make plea before expulsion

The Farmersville Unified School District held their second board meeting of the month on Feb. 22.

The school board announced that the Farmersville Teachers Association proposal for the 2005-2006 was available for review at the central office. Meeting and negotiation between district and employee organization representative shall not take place on these initial proposals until a reasonable time has elapsed after the submission of these proposals in order to enable the public to become informed and to express itself regarding the proposals at a public meeting.

The Education Code requires the board to enter into an agreement for audit services by April 1. Requests for Proposals (RFP) were issued and two companies responded with bids. The board awarded M. Green and Company a contract for their audit services. Fiscal impact is $51,050 over a three year period.

The board took action and approved to appoint an impartial administrative panel composed of three or more certificated personnel, none of whom shall be members of the board or on the staff of the school in which the student is enrolled, to hear expulsion and make a recommendation to the board for next school year.

In other business:

The 2005 Academic Decathlon Team competed in the Tulare County Academic Decathlon competition Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19. The team was awarded 26 medals and placed second in the Small Schools Division, team members included: Jessica Arreguin, Veronica Benitez, David Moran, Sonia Hernadez, Julie Martinez, Amanda Corona, Amanda Benitez, Victoria Ballesteros, Delia Huerta, Alfonso Fernandez and Perlita Mendez.

Patricia Miller was also nominated as the 2005 CSBA Delegate Assembly by the board.

The next board meeting will be at 6:45 p.m.Tuesday, March 8 at the Farmersville District Office.
