More than 1,300 students from 100 schools will recite at 34th annual Poetry & Prose

VISALIA – More than 1,300 students from 100 schools throughout Tulare County will take this stage this week for Poetry & Prose.

The 34th annual program is scheduled for March 13, 15, 16 and March 19-22 in the Tulare County Office of Education administration building located at 6200 S. Mooney Blvd. in Visalia. This countywide oral interpretation event for students in grades K-8 provides an opportunity for participants to recite before an appreciative audience. The public is welcome to attend this free event.

Students prepare poems or dramatic readings and perform either individually or in small groups. A judge provides positive and instructional critiques, and evaluates each performance.  Every student receives a personalized Achievement Award Certificate.

“Poetry & Prose is an excellent event for students regardless of their experience reciting before an audience,” says Tulare County Superintendent of Schools Jim Vidak. “Participants get lots of praise and encouragement.” Sessions will be held each day at 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 11:30 a.m., with the exception of March 19 when only the 10:15 a.m. session will be held.
