Visalia Unified announces community forums to gain input for Local Control Accountability Plan
VISALIA – Parents and district administrators don’t have much say in how much money a school district receives from the state. But they do get to say how that money is spent.
Beginning next week, Visalia Unified School District will be holding a series of community forums designed to do just that. The forums will gather public input regarding goals, actions and how best to leverage resources to increase or improve student services.
The forums are part of the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which is required by the California Department of Education.
“This plan involves a comprehensive look at academic performance, data analysis and how we are ensuring that our programs meet the needs of specific groups,” said Jim Sullivan, Accountability Department Administrator for Visalia Unified. “These groups include English language learners, lower socioeconomic status households and special education. We are also working with multiple advisory groups so that our plan reflects the community’s priorities, goals and concerns. With a well-researched plan, VUSD students will have access to additional resources and supports.”
Forums will be held at school cafeterias from 5:30 to 6:30 at the following sites:
• Divisadero Middle School, Monday, Oct. 7
• Valley Oak Middle School, Tuesday, Oct. 8
• Ridgeview Middle School, Thursday, Oct. 10
• Goshen Elementary School, Friday, Oct. 11
• Ivanhoe Elementary School, Thursday, Oct. 17
• La Joya Middle School, Monday, Oct. 21
• Green Acres Middle School, Thursday, Nov. 7
