‘Great Futures’ at students’ fingertips

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sequoias announces annual Great Futures event will be held online

VISALIA – Children may be the future, but the future is only as bright as their childhood. Kids who grow up in broken homes, often repeat the behavior. Kids who join gangs at a young age become criminal ringleaders as adults. And kids who don’t have any structure or supervision never learn valuable lessons of accountability, independence and determination.

Those skills have never been needed more than now as many children have been learning on their own, without immediate access to parents working essential jobs and teachers scrambling to answer questions to 30 households instead of a single classroom. Many of the children struggling with this scenario are those that would normally be attending their local Boys and Girls Club from 2 to 6 p.m. weekday afternoons.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sequoias, which oversees all 14 club sites in Tulare County, will hold its annual “Great Futures” event on May 20 to celebrate the achievements of Club members and staff, as well as to show their appreciation for their local supporters.

Like previous years, program will consist of various speeches and success stories. The only difference this year is that Great Futures will not be an in-person event, but rather a video event. Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sequoias invites everyone to participate by watching the video as it premieres! The event will be held in the form of an online video, premiering on Facebook and YouTube at 5:30 p.m. All community members are invited to join in on the celebration.

If you would like to participate in the video premiere, be sure to follow Boys and Girls Clubs of the Sequoias on Facebook and subscribe to their YouTube Channel and hit the notification bell.
