Driving home a drug-free lifestyle

Tulare County Office of Education will hold drive-thru Red Ribbon Week event featuring goodie bags, t-shirts, prizes and resources on Oct. 28

TULARE COUNTY – After 19 months of a global pandemic, the Tulare County Office of Education (TCOE) wants to remind parents students are fighting more than just COVID to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It’s also important for youth live their lives drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free. In partnership with the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency, TCOE is proud to announce its 12th annual Tulare County Red Ribbon Celebration.

Typically held at the Visalia Convention Center, the Red Ribbon Celebration is a fun and interactive prevention education event attended by hundreds of students. This year, due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the Red Ribbon Celebration has been reimagined as a drive-thru event at TCOE’s Mooney Boulevard office from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28. This year, the national theme is “Drug Free Looks Like Me!”

Families are encouraged to attend the free drive-thru event, which will feature representatives and resources from numerous partner agencies, including the Visalia Police Department, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, United Way, California Highway Patrol, Visalia Unified School District and many others. Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy goodie bags with a Red Ribbon t-shirt, prizes, and helpful resources distributed by partner agencies. At the end of the event, participants will be able to stop to take photos, enjoy music from HITZ 104.9, and view several large emergency response vehicles.

“The Red Ribbon Celebration is an opportunity for Tulare County parents and educators to be reminded of the importance of supporting children in all ways to grow up resilient and drug free,” said Tim Hire, Tulare County Superintendent of Schools. “We hope families will attend and walk away with information on organizations in our community that can support them to lead healthy, productive lives.”

Red Ribbon Week is the longest running anti-drug campaign in U.S. history, annually observed by millions around the nation. The Tulare County Red Ribbon Celebration is a partnership between TCOE’s CHOICES Prevention Program (tcoe.org/CHOICES), Tulare County Health & Human Services Agency (tchhsa.org), Visalia Unified School District (vusd.org), National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADDTulare.com), Family Services of Tulare County (fstc.org), Family HealthCare Network (fhcn.org), and the Tulare County Prevention Coalition.
