EXETER – The Exeter Courthouse Gallery wants to transport you to your favorite beach in its newest showing, “Seascapes and Ocean Views”.

The show has nearly 50 entries from oils to watercolors, photography to ceramics. Local Tulare County artists who have entered the show include John Sundstrom, Nancy Quinn, Manuel Abad, Beckie Ballew Nava, Robert Sutton, Nonni Rhoades, Jana Botkin, Christy Stapleton, and Linda Hengst. Some Fresno and Cambria artists have also entered.

The show theme was the brainchild of gallery director Joanie Constable. As former art marketing director for The Creative Center, Constable had organized a “Down by the Sea” show at the Jon Ginsburg Gallery a few years ago.

“We had a great turnout and it was a very diverse show with great entries,” she said. “Artists always have a seascape in their portfolios, or at least something coastal.

“The Exeter Courthouse Galley has not had many open call shows and I thought it would be great to bring this to the gallery.”

Some of the work includes mermaids, acrylic textured ocean views, and a sea lion photograph.

“Originally, the thought was to bring some ‘ocean breezes’ to the Valley,” Constable said.

However, with entries being taken in during the rain last Sunday, “it brightened up everyone’s day to see colorful bright seascapes,” she added.

An opening reception for Seascapes and Ocean Views will take place on Sunday, June 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. Light appetizers will be served and guests are asked to vote for their favorite piece. The winner will receive a monetary prize.

The show runs from June 1 to 28. The Courthouse Gallery, located at 125 S. B St., is open Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, 12 to 4 p.m.

“Our hope is that the seascapes will transport the viewer to a calm and serene place where troubles float away on the tide,” Constable said.

The Courthouse Gallery’s August and September show will be “Artists of Whimsy” featuring the work of Fresno artists Laura Freadrich and Kat Austin, and Sanger artist and owner of Mixed Messages Gallery, Kathleen Mattox.
