Continuation high school students find acceptance through art

Arts Visalia presents Sequoia High School exhibition “Person, Place, Thing and in Between” thru Nov. 15

VISALIA – Continuation high school students often feel misrepresented and suppressed in society. They are often overlooked and dismissed as bad students, when they are really just like any other teenagers trying to find their place in the world.

One of the places students at Sequoia High School can find acceptance and understanding is through their art. Today, Oct. 30 Arts Visalia will present the Sequoia High School Exhibition “Person, Place, Thing and in Between.” This is the third year the works of Sequoia High School students will be displayed in Arts Visalia’s gallery. Instructed by Sarah Coker, multiple art classes will be represented, approximately exhibiting a base of 140 students. Sequoia High School offers a fresh start to students in an accepting and non-threatening atmosphere, as well as success in earning a living through vocational and career preparation.

The student artwork will be displayed through Nov. 15, with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 1st, as part of Visalia Arts’ First Friday event. The exhibition is sponsored in part by Tulare County Board of Supervisors Step Up! and the California Arts Council.
