Woodlake Awards deadline is Dec. 1

Selection committee is seeking nominations for Man, Woman, Youth, Youth Mentor, Organization, Business and Recycler of the Year awards

WOODLAKE – This Sunday is your last chance to nominate someone for a Woodlake Award. 

The selection committee announced this month it has extended the nomination period through Dec. 1. A completed nomination form must be turned into or mailed to Woodlake City Hall, 350 N. Valencia, Woodlake, CA 93286 or emailed to [email protected]. Incomplete forms will not be considered.

The awards are given to those who have contributed significantly to make Woodlake a better place in which to live. Candidates for Man, Woman and Youth (1 boy and 1 girl) of the Year awards must live within the Woodlake Unified School District boundaries. The Spirit of Woodlake award is given to someone who exemplifies the Tiger spirit but does not have to live within the school district boundaries. 

Youth Mentor is open to coaches, teachers, ministers, youth leaders, etc. who volunteer service to the youth within the school district boundaries but do not have to live within the school district boundaries. Candidates for Organization of the Year must be a nonprofit, service club or other organization that serves the community within the boundaries of the school district. Candidates for Business of the Year must be located within the 93286 zip code while the Recycler of the Year is for any person or group that has made significant contribution to recycling in Woodlake. 

Most awards are chosen by a committee which includes one member each from the City of Woodlake staff, Woodlake Police Department, Woodlake Valley Chamber of Commerce, Woodlake Lions/Lady Lions, Woodlake Rotary, Woodlake Kiwanis, Woodlake Ministerial Association, The HomeGrown Project, Woodlake Unified School District, Woodlake High School, and previous award winners in each category.

The Chamber of Commerce is responsible for selecting, contacting the business and ordering/buying the plaque, and presenting award. Mid Valley Disposal is responsible for selection, contacting and ordering/buying the plaque and presenting the Recycler of the Year Award.
