Woodlake searches for 2021 award nominees

Nominations for several award categories are due by Saturday, Jan. 15, award ceremonies will be held on March 4

WOODLAKE – Residents and businesses in Woodlake are being asked to nominate one another to be recognized for their contributions to the community throughout 2021.

Nomination forms can be picked up at the city of Woodlake front office or Woodlake High School front office and due by Saturday, Jan. 15 and can be turned into Woodlake City Hall 350 N. Valencia, Woodlake, CA 93286 or emailed to [email protected] And the awards ceremony will be held on Friday, March 4.

The awards are given to that person(s) who has contributed significantly to make Woodlake a better place in which to live. Business and people nominated must be within the Woodlake Elementary School Boundaries. Youth award will be within the Woodlake High School boundaries. The Spirit of Woodlake award recipient can live anywhere; just have a connection to Woodlake.

There are 10 awards that people and businesses can be nominated for:

  • Man of the Year
  • Woman of the Year
  • Youth of the Year (1 boy and 1 girl)
  • Spirit of Woodlake
  • Youth Mentor of the Year
  • Organization of the Year
  • Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Educator of the Year
  • Business of the Year (Selected by the Woodlake Chamber)
  • Recycler of the Year Award (Selected by MidValley Recycling)

An anonymous committee will review nominees from this year and those received from two prior years to select the winners. The following groups will select an anonymous person from within their group to be on this committee: City of Woodlake, Woodlake Police, Chamber of Commerce, Lions/Lady Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis, The HomeGrown Project, Woodlake Unified School District and Woodlake High School. Each year the committee needs to choose a chairperson within the group for the next year. That person is responsible for getting the next year’s committee together and getting nomination forms out.

The Chamber of Commerce is responsible for selecting, contacting the business and ordering/buying the plaque, and presenting award.

MidValley Disposal is responsible for selection, contacting and ordering/buying the plaque and presenting the Recycler of the Year Award.
