When muralist and famous portrait painter Wei Luan came to town to paint "The Birth of Modern Irrigation" mural on a long wall beside the Edison Substation in Lindsay in September, it was suggested that members of the mural committee could take turns providing him with a box lunch each day.
Helen Easton volunteered. "I said I will do it, then I thought, I'm not going to call around and ask for names. I will just do it myself," Easton said, as she showed off a gorgeous portrait of herself painted by Luan. It was a complete surprise to her, a thank-you gift for her many excellent lunches.
