Marlene Sario, candidate for District 1 Supervisor, attended the Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) brealfast meeting Wednesday, Jan. 21 at the Olive Tree Restaurant in Lindsay to discuss the future of agriculture in Tulare County.
Lindsay small farm advocate Trudy Wischemann said she saw the county becoming a non-agriculture area. Lindsay citrus grower Bob Puls said he could see Kern and Fresno County industry and development expanding and squeezing agriculture out of Kings and Tulare counties.
Sario said taking a regional approach would also help in revenue sharing during economic crises, such as the one counties are in now as they prepare to cut essential services due to the state budget shortfall.
"Everyone needs to be working in the same direction," Sario said. "This is one of the best parts of my job. I get to go out and listen to people with great ideas."
