An ongoing feud between two Exeter men nearly turned fatal.
Efrain Oseguera, 21, of Exeter remains in critical but stable condition at Kaweah Delta Hospital after being shot five times during an argument on July 26.
At about 7:30 p.m., the Exeter Police Department responded to a report of shots fired.
According to Lt. Cliff Bush, Oseguera and the suspect, 35-year-old Jose Preciado, knew each other from an ongoing dispute. When they crossed paths walking in the 100 block of South H Street, they began another heated argument. The argument culminated with the shooting. Preciado, who lives down the street, got in his car and drove away. Police officers stopped Preciado on I Street and arrested him in connection with the shooting.
Preciado was booked into the Tulare County Main Jail on charges of attempted homicide. He pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted homicide at an arraignment hearing on July 28. A preliminary hearing setting will be held at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow, Aug. 5 in Department 12 of the Tulare County Superior Court.
