An Exeter man was arrested on suspicion of drinking and driving following a near fatal accident last Wednesday night just outside of Exeter.

Marvin Winford Plumlee, 28, of Exeter was arrested for felony DUI by California Highway Patrol officers after his car collided head-on with another car on Visalia Road just west of Anderson Road.

According to the CHP report, Plumlee was traveling eastbound on Visalia Road at an unknown rate of speed when his cell phone rang. While talking on the phone, Plumlee allowed his 1990 Chevy pick-up truck to drift into opposing traffic and collide with a 1981 Toyota sedan at about 8:35 p.m.

The pick-up flipped over, landed on its hood and pinned Plumlee's arm underneath the vehicle. Fire engines from the Exeter and Visalia stations responded to the accident.

Air-powered lifters were used to raise the vehicle so firefighters could use the Jaws of Life to extract him in about 19 minutes. Plumlee, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was then transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital with moderate injuries.

The Toyota was driven by Alfredo Olea, 40, of Farmersville. Olea, who was also trapped in his vehicle, was extracted in minutes and transported to Kaweah Delta Hospital with major injuries.
