3 die in collision on Highway 65

An early morning crash killed three people and seriously injured four others headed to work on Monday, May 23.

According to CHP, the head-on crash occurred just before 6 a.m. on Highway 65 west of Road 220 closing traffic for several hours during the morning commute.

CHP reported that 2005 GMC Tahoe was swerving in and out of the southbound lane at about 65 mph. The Tahoe veered into the path of a 1987 Dodge Caravan carrying six farm workers. CHP said there was not enough for the driver of the Caravan to react forcing the head-on collision.

Both drivers were killed and another male passenger in the van was killed. The driver of the van and the passenger were only identified as a 21-year-old Seville men. The driver of the Tahoe was identified as a 25-year-old Porterville man.

Two males and two females in the van suffered major injuries and were transported to hospitals in Visalia, Porterville and Tulare. As of press time, no other information was available. All of the passengers in the van were from Seville. Only the driver of the van and one other passenger were wearing seatbelts.
