Exeter man found shot at mini mart

An Exeter man was found suffering from a gunshot wound at Sierra Cellars mini mart on Kaweah Avenue on July 8.

The Exeter Police Department received a call from the business at about 1:40 p.m. on Friday that a man, who had just arrived at the gas station, had been shot. During an interview with the man, identified as Bennie Medina, 32, of Exeter, it was discovered that he was shot somewhere outside of the city limits.

Since the crime did not occur in Exeter, the case was handed over to the Tulare County Sheriff's Department's Violent Crimes Unit. As of press time, Lt. David Galloway had not released any additional information about the crime. No arrests have been made as deputies continue their investigation. Galloway said no additional information will be available until an arrest has been made.

Medina was transported to a local hospital where he was in stable condition as of press time. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Sgt. Eric Velasquez or detective Manuel Cavazos at 733-6523 or 733-6218.
