If you're looking for something festive to do one of these October nights you might want to head south, where the Lindsay Volunteer Fire Department plays host to their annual Haunted Asylum.

With ghoulish special effects and ghastly acquaintances around the corner, the Haunted Asylum promises to be a spirited delight that will send anyone's heart racing.

As you enter you are introduced, via television to the story of the Annex, a portion of the asylum that &#8220closed down in 1935 after a series of mysterious and extremely violent deaths in the building.”

The story goes on to say that the building lay vacant for many years until people started hearing and seeing former patients. As a door opens by itself and the television flickers off, one knows it's time to enter.

Dimly lit rooms, and darkened doorways await, making even the bravest hesitant to be in the front. A guide is there to assist you if needed, but you might be too busy screaming to ask them any questions.

Try not to get lost in the mysterious, black maze where you are liable to meet some new, ghostly &#8220friends.” Along the way you'll also pay a visit to various operating and exam rooms, that still bare the remains of former patients.

One hallway is now host to an over abundance of spiders that are everywhere you look. The Asylum even has it's very own graveyard, sure to be filled with spooks. You never know what or who might just be around the corner. Consider keeping younger ones close by, as some scenes might have them holding your hand tighter than usual.

A local event that's not to be missed, the Haunted Asylum just might be what you need to scare up your Halloween spirit.

The Asylum is located at 286 N. Elmwood Ave. in downtown Lindsay and will be open now through Halloween. Doors open nightly at 6 p.m. and are open until 10 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and Monday, midnight on Friday and Saturday and 11 p.m. on Halloween night.
