Exeter officer accused in sexual assault case

An Exeter police officer has been placed on administrative leaving following accusations that he sexually assaulted a woman in Exeter.

Exeter Police Officer Harry Perez was placed on administrative leave last week, pending the results of a criminal investigation and internal affairs investigation being conducted by the Tulare County District Attorney's office.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff's Department, an Exeter woman in her mid 20s is claiming that Perez sexually assaulted her on Sunday, March 3 at a location within the city limits of Exeter.

The Exeter Police Department turned the case over to the Tulare County Sheriff's office to insure that an impartial investigation could be conducted by an agency not affiliated with the department.

The Sheriff's Office released a report regarding the case on Wednesday, March 7 and submitted the case to the District Attorney's Office on March 8.

As of press time, the District Attorney's Assistant, Carol Turner, said that the case was still under review and that Perez has not been arrested or charged with a crime.

Perez, an 11-year veteran of the department, is currently assigned to the patrol division and was at one time a D.A.R.E. officer.

Exeter Police Chief Cliff Bush was unavailable for comment as of press time.
