During a mixer last week, community members toured the newly refurbished Lindsay Theatre, where curtain calls will be popular this year.

In the last 12 months, major improvements and changes have been made to the theatre, where musicals, melodramas, high school plays and summer events take place year-around. The City of Lindsay generously provided a $13,500 grant for the renovation of the balcony that hosts cabaret seating.

The Bank of the Sierra granted $2,000 to help pay for the tables and chairs to furnish the cabaret, where concession counters have been added in addition to the recently acquired liquor license that permits the theatre to serve beer and wine during the productions.

One of the newest upgrades included a revamped sound system. A new amplifier, soundboard, speakers and microphones are the result of a $1,000 donation from the Brian Watson family and State Farm Insurance. The Lindsay High School Drama Club donated an additional $2,900 to the sound system project.

Although major improvements have been made, it seems that the ladies of Lindsay are most appreciative for the renovation of an upstairs restroom.

The downstairs restroom proved to be overcrowded and often not worth the wait, especially during large productions.

An anonymous donation of approximately $20,000 was given to the Lindsay Community Theater to renovate the bathroom that is now finished with two stalls, sinks, a very large mirror and calming color combinations fit for a queen.

With plans to add new doors to the front of the building, new tiles and display windows, outdoor concessions and a terrace, the exterior will look just as sharp as the interior, where dressing rooms will be updated and remote-control stage lights installed.

Lindsay Community Theatre curtain calls for the year will include the fall play, Our Town, fall musical, Disney's The High School Musical, winter Hot Dog Melodrama, spring musical, Godspell and a late summer grammar school play that is yet to be announced.

Season tickets for the Lindsay Community Theatre are $29.95 for main floor seating, with an additional $2 per show for cabaret seating.
