Monarchs fall to Mission Oak

On Thursday, Sept 20, the Exeter Monarchs took on Mission Oak of Tulare in a non league game. The Monarchs showed from the opening kickoff they were fired up and ready to play against a talented East Yosemite League opponent.

The Monarch defense kept the Hawks out of the end zone in the first quarter. But late in the 2nd quarter, Mission Oak would strike first as Corbin Quinonez would find Bryant Hernandez for a 15 yard touchdown pass to give the Hawks the 7-0 lead. Then with under a minute left to play in the first half the Hawks would air it out to get into the end zone as Quinonez found Leandre Jefferson for a 10 yard touchdown pass making it 14-0 heading into halftime.

“We felt great heading into halftime. Our defense was playing great and we are confusing them,” said Exeter Head Coach Ben White.

In the third quarter it was all Mission Oak as the Hawks would score three more times to pull away. With the score at 35-0 in the fourth quarter, the Monarchs would continue to battle on both sides of the ball. It would finally pay off for Exeter as Austin Cardoza would run it in for a Monarch touchdown late in the fourth quarter but it was already too late as the Hawks defeated the Monarchs 42-6.

“I am very proud of the way our kids played tonight they played hard,” said White.

Heading into Exeter’s next game, the Monarchs will be traveling to Yosemite to take on the Badgers. The Monarchs will have an extra day to rest which will be helpful for Exeter as the last two weeks the defense has seen a couple of hard runners in Bakersfield Christian and not Mission Oaks.

“We are going to look good heading into Yosemite. We will be fresh and also we will be getting back our receiver Trevor Weaver,” said White.

The Monarchs are now 2-3 on the season and will be traveling to Yosemite who is 0-4 on the season. That game is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m.
