Tigers defeat Eagles 3-0

The Woodlake Tigers Girls Volleyball team defeated the Immanuel Eagles 3-0 in a match in Woodlake on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The Tigers won the first game 25-12, the second 25-18 and ended the best of five match by winning game three 25-14.

The win kept the Tigers undefeated in match play at 6-0. They are 10-6 overall including tournament play.

Woodlake coach Tori Johnson said, “They (the team) know that the key to being successful is to have good ball control. When we make great passes we are able to execute offensively. I was proud of their performance.”

For the Tigers: KiAna Cunningham had 13 kills and two blocks; Melissa Samaniego had nine kills and three blocks and Quinn Keller had five kills and two aces. Woodlake improve to 9-4 on the season.

The Lindsay Cardinals went 4-2 in the Visalia tournament. The Cardinals defeated Kings Christian and Hanford in pool play. In the first game of the double elimination game the Cardinals fall to Kingsburg 25-14 and 25-14. Lindsay would go on to beat Tulare Union 27-25 and 25-21 just to face Kingsburg once again. Kingsburg would pick up the victory to knock the Cardinals out of the championship bracket. The Cardinals would play one more game in the tournament as Lindsay took on Hanford. Just like the first time these two teams meet it was Lindsay who came out on top as the Cardinals defeated the Bullpups 25-20 in game two and 15-12 in the third game. The Cardinals will be taking on Immanuel and Parlier this week.

The Strathmore Spartans battled hard in the Visalia tournament but just could not get past Tulare Western and Golden West. The Spartans would pick up a big victory over Kings Christian in the tournament. The Spartans are now 5-3 on the season and will be back home on Thursday, Sept. 27 against Monache. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
