Exeter tries to get on a hot streak

The Exeter Monarchs were swept in their league opener against Immanuel 9-0 on Sept. 20. The Monarchs would recover quickly and took out their frustrations on Kingsburg. On Tuesday, Sept. 25 the Monarchs defeated the Vikings 8-1. Kingsburg’s only win came in doubles play as Ashley Olsen and Abigail Burger defeated Sammie Soong and Makayla MacMurty 8-7.

On Thursday, Sept. 27 the Monarchs were back on the court this time against the Dinuba Emperors. Exeter would pick up victories from Hunter Johnson, Audrey Flores and Victoria Douglass as Johnson defeated Jessica Muzzy 6-2, 6-3, Flores defeated Olivia Kapheim 6-1, 6-2 and Douglass defeated Monica Ochoa 6-4, 6-1. The Emperors would even the score with Exeter as Dinuba’s Rosie Cavazos, Jessica Martinez and Odalis Contreras picked up victories.

In doubles play, Dinuba picked up the first victory as Jessica Muzzy and Monica Ochoa defeated Hunter Johnson and Audrey Flores 4-8. Exeter would bounce back and tie it up when Victoria Douglass and Alissa Flores defeated Olivia Kapheim and Rosie Cavazos 8-5. But in the end it was Savannah Solian and Emily Oliverez of Dinuba to steal the team victory as Solian and Oliverez defeated Holly Harlien and Makayla MacMurtry 8-1.

On Tuesday, Sept. 25 the Woodlake Tigers traveled to Orange Cove to take on the Titans.

The Tigers would pick up victories from Dalila Vazquez, Paris Carlsen, Selina Ramirez and Xochitl Quezada in singles matches. Vazquez defeated Karina Ochoa 8-4, Carlsen defeated Sandra Lua 8-1, Ramirez defeated Tiffany Salas 8-4 and Quezada defeated Josecline Garcia 8-4.

In doubles play Selena Harrison and Dalila Vazquez defeated Ruvid Ferrer and Karina Ochoa 8-3 to pick up the team victory over the Titans 6-3.

The Tigers would continue their winning ways, this time it was against Granite Hills on Thursday, Sept. 27 in Woodlake. The Tigers would pick up victories from Joee Denis, Paris Carlsen and Xochitl Quezada as Denis defeats Sophia Martinez 8-7, Carlsen defeats Andrea Carranza 8-3 and Quezada defeats Mayra Puente 8-3.

In doubles play it was Selena Harrison and Dalila Vazquez defeating Lisa Yang and Crystal Ruiz 8-7 while Joee Denis and Paris Carlsen defeated Sophia Martinez and Christian Medina 8-6.

The Tigers improve to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in league play.

The Lindsay Cardinals continue to improve but it is just not yet showing in the win column. On Tuesday, Sept. 25 the Cardinals took on Granite Hills 9-0 to open the second round of league play.

It did not get any better for Lindsay as the Cardinals lost to Sierra Pacific 8-1 on Thursday, Sept. 27. Michele Whitehair and Nicole Sanchez defeated Morgan Gong and Christina Gong 8-2 to pick up the only victory for the Cardinals.

Lindsay will take on Corcoran on Thursday, Oct 4 in a league match up.
