After two long nights, the Farmersville boys team came out on top as the Champions Cup winner regaining the trophy that the Cardinals won in 2012.
It came down to the difference of one goal on Thursday, Jan. 24. Farmersville sophomore Marco Jacobo converted on an assist from senior Alfredo Vazquez to score the lone goal of the night in the second half to take the win and the cup.
The victory was a two-game, aggregate 1-0 win following a showdown between the Aztecs and Cardinals on Jan. 17 that ended scoreless after two overtime periods.
The non-league win boosts the Aztecs overall record to 17-3-2 while dropping Lindsay’s to 11-5-3.
Farmersville was a week-long winner last week, also taking victories against league opponents Orange Cove on Tuesday and McFarland on Friday. Farmersville downed the Titans 8-0 with Pedro Berber and Moises Hernandez each scoring twice and Andres Cisneros, Sergio Longino, Alex Parga and Victor Torres each netting one.
Farmersville went on to defeat McFarland 2-0 with goals from Pedro Berber and Alfredo Vazquez.
The Aztecs are now undefeated 5-0 against all league opponents and entered the second round of East Sequoia League play yesterday, Jan. 29 after press time.
The Aztecs enter the second round of league with an impressive 76-5 score against all opponents and have recorded 16 shutouts to date.
