The Lindsay Cardinal Boys soccer team defeated the Corcoran Panthers 1-0 in an East Sequoia League matchup on Friday, Jan. 25 in Lindsay.
Josue Betancourt scored the only goal in the game in the first period of play.
The Cardinals were coming off a tough 1-0 non-league loss to the Farmersville Aztecs in the Champions Cup the previous night.
Head coach Fode Doumbia said the Farmersville game taught his team a lesson.
“We are a fast team,” he said, “and last year we were really fast, but this year we need to rely more on our passing. We are not as fast as we were.”
Doumbia added, “We had a lot of scoring opportunities in both games but we just did not finish the plays. We need to finish, to put the ball in the goal.”
The Cardinals are 5-0 in league and hope to go far again this year. Last year’s team made it all the way to the 2012 CIF Southern California Regional Division II Championship losing in overtime to St. Augustine out of San Diego.
“It is very hard to repeat what we did last year,” said Doumbia, “but we will work hard.”
Lindsay picked up another big win last week as the Cardinals defeated Woodlake 6-2 in East Sequoia League play.
