Torres scores 38 points, leads Aztecs to victory

The Farmersville Aztecs Boys Basketball (12-7) team defeated the Kings Christian Crusaders (9-5) 72-53 on Thursday Jan. 24 in Farmersville.

The Aztecs held a comfortable lead in the game and then let the Crusaders make it close before running away with the game in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Fabian Acevedo said, “The guys played really well. We just need to learn how to hold onto those leads and not make it so hard on ourselves.”

The Aztecs are now 4-0 in East Sierra League play as is the Orosi Cardinals. The Aztecs have a key matchup with Orosi this week.

“We are looking good to take league,” said Acevedo. “If the guys work hard and do what I know they are capable of they can win it.”

Greg Torres led the Aztecs with 38 points, 11 rebounds, three assist, two steals and two blocked shots. Jose Del Real had 18 points, 10 rebounds, seven steals, and one blocked shot. Cody Hall had eight points, eight assist, seven steals and four rebounds. Sam Metcalf had four points, eight rebounds and two steals.

The Aztecs will battle for first place on Tuesday Jan. 29 as the Aztecs host the Orosi Cardinals.

The Aztecs need a victory against the Cardinals to stay in first place.

Farmersville will be back at it again on Friday Feb. 1 as the Orange Cove Titans come to town.
