The Farmersville boys soccer team were on the verge of sending the game into overtime when an offside call on the Aztecs offense halted their momentum in the pivotal second half. Trailing1-0, the Aztecs were making every effort they could to tie the game against Sun Valley in the Division III So-Cal regional championship tournament’s semifinal matchup down in the Los Angeles area last Thursday, March 7. And just when things seemed to be turning around for the Aztecs, a goal was called back with the game-changing offsides call.
The Aztecs fell behind in the first half with a goal by Sun Valley’s David Flores.
No. 3 Farmersville was unable to make any of its many shots on the afternoon and the win went to the No. 2 Sun Valley squad.
Sun Valley advanced to the regional championship where the team lost 6-1 to Animo Valley while Farmersville saw its season come to a close.
The Aztecs advanced to the semifinal game by bringing down No. 6 Chadwick on Tuesday, March 5 at home in Garry L. Meek Stadium.
Farmersville went ahead in the first half with a 1-0 lead and went on to dominate in the second half adding two more goals bringing the final score to 3-1. The Aztecs offense was headed by Pedro Berber, Isaac Alvarez ande Alfredo Vasquez who each scored one goal a piece. Vazquez along with German Gutierrez each added assists in the winning effort.
The Aztecs finished up the season with the titles of East Sierra League Champions and Central Section Champions and finished up with a 23-5-3 overall record.
