The Farmersville Aztecs have captured the Ron Robinson Baseball Classic for the second year in a row by beating the Woodlake Tigers 5-4 on March 27.
The Aztecs would jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning to give starting pitcher Cody Hall some breathing room. But the Tigers would chip away at the lead as the Tigers would get on the board for the first time when they scored one run in the bottom of the third.
Then in the bottom of the sixth inning the Tigers would tie the game up making it 3-3. Farmersville would pull away in the top of the seventh inning by scoring two runs to give the Aztecs a 5-3 lead.
Woodlake would not go down easy as the Tigers began to mount a comeback as the Tigers scored one run to make it 5-4. But Woodlake could not get the needed runs to tie or even take the win against the Aztecs.
During tournament play the Aztecs went 3-1 with their only loss coming from Woodlake on March 26 a day before the Championship game.
In the Aztecs first game of the Ron Robinson Classic they faced off against Sierra Pacific. The Aztecs had nine hits to defeat the Golden Bears 14-5 as Cody Hall picked up the victory on the mound. In their second game of the tournament the Aztecs defeated Kennedy 15-3. The Aztecs had 10 hits on the night as David Williams went the distance on the mound recording seven strike outs to pick up the victory.
Farmersville would then face Woodlake. With the Aztecs 2-0 and the Tigers 2-0 at this point of the tournament, the outcome of this game was to determine who would be the home team for the Championship game. The Tigers would go on to win this game 5-3 to give Jesse Hernandez the loss.
The Aztecs are 6-6 on the season and will be back in action on Thursday, April 4 as Farmersville travels to Caruthers. Farmersville will begin East Sierra League play on Tuesday, April 9 in Orange Cove to take on the Titans.
As for the Tigers, Woodlake now sits at 5-6-1 and sits just a half a game behind first place Sierra Pacific. The Tigers will continue East Sequoia league play on April 2 against Sierra Pacific.
