EXETER – Why did the scarecrow win an award? Because he was outstanding in his field.

Do you want your scarecrow to win an award? Then look no further, because this is the contest for you.

Exeter is kicking off its 6th annual Scarecrow Contest as a part of Exeter’s Annual Fall Festival.

For the entire month of Oct., all Exeter businesses, organizations, youth groups, families and individuals are invited to line the charming streets of Exeter with their creative scarecrows.

All must be aligning with this year’s theme of, “Homegrown and Out of this World!”

To register for the contest, you must fill out the form located at Exeter Chamber of Commerce and submit a $10 registration fee, made payable to the Exeter Chamber of Commerce. To boost your final score by 10%, register by Sept. 19.

The contest will be from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31. The scarecrows must be created from scratch and constructed in good taste. This meaning they are not allowed to be factory made, as you are required to stuff them by hand, and secure all parts yourself.

In order to win, encourage your friends, family, and customers to vote for your scarecrow. Anyone may vote one time per scarecrow throughout the month of Oct. at participating locations, the Exeter Chamber of Commerce, or by clicking “like” on their favorite scarecrow photo on the Exeter Scarecrow Facebook page, www.facebook.com/exeterscarecrows.com.

Each scarecrow will be assigned a voting number that must be attached to the scarecrow, and must be ready and on display by Oct. 2.

First place winner for Best of Show will receive a perpetual trophy, $200 Exeter Chamber of Commerce gift certificates, and most importantly—bragging rights.

First place winners in the categories of Organization/Non-profit group, Business, and Family/Individual will receive a $75 Exeter Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates. First place in the category of Youth Group Organization will receive a private group party at Exeter Hobbies.

Second and third place winners in all categories will receive a plaque, and all participants will be recognized for participating.

For further information or questions regarding the contest, contact the Chamber at 559-592-2919.
