Tax preparer arrested for ID theft and fraud

VISALIA – If you got your taxes done in Visalia recently, you might want to double check the preparer’s name.

On March 15, officers with the Visalia Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit served a search warrant at Engman Tax Service, in the 2300 block of S. Cain Ct., and arrested 49-year-old Brandy Engman.

The Visalia Police Department began investigating Engman for credit card fraud in August 2017 but during the investigation it was leaerned she was also a suspect in other cases involving identity theft, burglary, and falsifying tax documents.

A search of her office, which was in the garage of her home, resulted in the seizure of her tax records. Engman was taken into custody without incident and booked at Tulare County Jail for a warrant, check fraud, burglary, ID theft, theft by false pretense and knowingly falsifying tax documents.
