TULARE COUNTY – While students find their summer break full of time off and picking up a remote, the Visalia Branch and Other Tulare County Libraries are trying to get them to pick up books instead.
From June 12 through July 21 the 2018 summer reading program, “Reading Takes You Everywhere,” invites all of the children of Tulare County to pick up the program at all 17 branch libraries.
After school ends and summer vacation begins, children face a phenomenon known as the “summer slide”, when children not engaged in learning can lose up to two months of learning and reading skills. To remedy this, Tulare County Library offers Summer Reading where children read books for fun and attend events with cultural and educational entertainment. Children, even toddlers, are encouraged to read books for rewards including beach balls, noise putty, and even earn a free book! There will be engaging performers such as jugglers, magicians, and exciting wildlife such as reptiles!
Enjoy performances at the Visalia Branch Library every Thursday at 11 am and 3 pm:
June 14 – E&M Reptiles
June 21 – Magician Timothy James
June 28 – Juggler David Cousin
July 5 – Steve Martin’s Wildlife
July 12 – Celtic Motion (Celtic music and dance)
July 19 – Ken Adams’ Adventure Theatre
Children and youth, ages 1-17, can also eat free at the Visalia Branch during our Summer Lunch program, Tuesday – Friday 12:30-1:30 pm. Lunches include fruit, vegetables, sandwiches, and milk.
In addition, the whole family can enjoy family movie showings in the Visalia Branch’s children’s library at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and games at 3 p.m. on Fridays.
