Visalia Parks and Recreation puts on annual Summer Catfish Derby at Plaza Park on July 28

VISALIA – What a better way to end summer than a reason to dust off the rod and reel. On Saturday, July 28, the Visalia Parks and Recreation Department is putting on its sixth annual Summer Catfish Derby at Plaza Park pond. It will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

This event is for children between the ages of 3 and 15 years. Entries will be divided into two age groups: 3 to 7 and 8 to 15. Prizes will go to the top three total stringer weights of each age group. Plus, all participants will be placed in a drawing to win fishing prizes.

The cost is $10 in advance or $12 on the day of the event if space allows.

Parks and Recreation would like to emphasize that only the registered child can be the one fishing with minimal assistance from an adult, and only one fishing poll is allowed for every registered child.

This event usually runs about 200 kids a year and sells out. So if you want a spot, preregister today. Preregistration can be done at
