STRATHMORE – The Spartans have been building for a shot at the East Sequoia League title all season. After a 15-11 win over the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears on Monday night they are in second place with a rematch against the first place Bakersfield Christian Eagles happening tonight at 6:30 p.m.

“Bakersfield Christian really surprised us this season,” Strathmore head coach Tim Stadtherr said. “Tonight, we started off kind of slow, but our passing and scoring really got going later on.”

The third quarter was when the game was decided as Strathmore (15-8, 4-1) held a slim two goal, 6-4, lead to begin. It was early on in the quarter when Moses Bower scored on a man advantage opportunity. Bower added another goal at the end of the quarter which capped off a 5-1 quarter for the Spartans. He finished with a team leading five goals.

Stadtherr knows that if his team is to have any chance of knocking off the first place Eagles (7-3, 6-0) the man up advantages is where they must score. The first time these two team met Strathmore went 2-12 on those chances in a 10-9 loss.

“We must capitalize on our advantages,” Stadtherr said.

The Eagles are coming off a 14-5 win over the Granite Hills Grizzlies on Monday night.
