Lindsay Kiwanis Club names TERRIFIC kids for November

Lindsay Kiwanis Club recognized Osvaldo Espinoza-Cabrera and Lucero Herrera-Valdez for their outstanding character in the month of November


LINDSAY – Three lucky students who exemplify the best Lindsay Unified strives for were selected as Kiwanis learners for the month of November.

Kiwanis is dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Lindsay Kiwanis Club recognizes Lindsay Unified School District learners who are Thoughtful-Enthusiastic-Respectful-Responsible-Inclusive-Friendly-Inquisitive-Capable (TERRIFIC) and who serve their community (school and/or Lindsay).

Osvaldo Espinoza-Cabrera

Osvaldo is an 8th grader at Kennedy Learning Community. Kennedy staff nominated him because he embodies all of the characteristics of a TERRIFIC Learner. Osvaldo is also a member of Team Empower, through which he is able to share the LUSD learning experience with visitors from around the nation. His favorite subject is Science, “because it is so hands-on”. After achieving a degree in Civil Engineering from CSU Fresno, Osvaldo plans to be a City Planner. Outside of school, Osvaldo is involved in boxing with his older brother, who is a Deputy Sherriff in Fresno. His friends describe Osvaldo as a “cool person to be around”; he strives for excellence and has the ability to help others become successful. Osvaldo challenges himself daily to be the best he can be and credits his family is his greatest support.

Lucero Herrera-Valdez

Lucero is an 8th grader at Kennedy Learning Community. She is a member of Team Empower, student body government, and the LUSD Nutritional Council. As a member of Team Empower, Lucero welcomes visitors and explains LUSD’s educational approach to student empowered learning. As an advisor to the Nutritional Council, Lucero is a taste-tester and makes recommendations for school menus. Her favorite subject is English Language Arts; she especially likes writing. Lucero’s career plan is in the field of medicine, focusing on becoming a pediatrician. After school, Lucero plays Lindsay United soccer and is the captain of her team. The Kennedy staff says that Lucero exhibits TERRIFIC Learner qualities: Her friends say she is a role model who is caring and helpful. She believes in the power of team and love of family.

The Lindsay Kiwanis Club recognized Osvaldo Espinoza-Cabrera and Lucero Herrera-Valdez, along with their families, at the Lindsay Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting on Nov. 26.
