Lindsay Club announces TERRIFIC kids for February

LINDSAY – Two lucky students who exemplify the best Lindsay Unified strives for were selected as Kiwanis learners for the month of February.

Kiwanis is dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. Lindsay Kiwanis Club recognizes Lindsay Unified School District learners who are Thoughtful-Enthusiastic-Respectful-Responsible-Inclusive-Friendly-Inquisitive-Capable (TERRIFIC) and who serve their community (school and/or Lindsay).

Cody Mitchell is a senior at Loma Vista Charter School. Cody was nominated for TERRIFIC Learner because he demonstrates all of the characteristics of TERRIFIC each and every day.  He is a resilient, self-directed young man who chose to attend Loma Vista because he knew he would be most successful in a differentiated learning environment.  Cody is on track to complete all requirements for graduation mid-semester.  His goals for the future are to be employed as a software developer, either in the area of virtual reality or mobile cell phone development.  Cody works with his mother in her house cleaning business and also supports his community by assisting the elderly in his neighborhood with upkeep of the interior and exterior of their homes.

Joeleigh Rowe is a Junior at John J. Cairns High School.  Joeleigh chose to attend John J. Cairns High School because she knew it offered the learning environment that she needed to be a successful learner and meet her goal of graduating early.  She is described by staff as a model learner who mentors her peers and displays the TERRIFIC Learner traits on a daily basis. Joeleigh plans to attend College of the Sequoias and then transfer to Cal Poly for a degree in journalism.  Her younger years growing up were difficult; but now she has a forever home with a large, supportive family.  She sees her future as a writer and caretaker for her grandfather.  Joeleigh is a soft-spoken young lady with positive energy, whose resiliency will serve her well as she endeavors to help others.

The Lindsay Kiwanis Club recognized Cody Mitchell and Joeleigh Rowe, along with their families, as February’s TERRIFIC Learners at the Lindsay Unified School District Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Feb. 25.
