VISALIA – A West Coast coffee chain will be opening up its first location in the Valley sometime in the next year in Visalia.
At its May 13 meeting, the Visalia Planning Commission approved a drive-thru coffee shop at the corner of Caldwell Avenue and Stonebook Street for The Human Bean. Similar to other coffee chains, Human Bean offers specialty coffee and espresso drinks and teas. What makes their menu different are frozen, coffee-flavored smoothies, such as Granita (frozen espresso) and Java Chip, as well as fruit smoothies in nine different flavors.
The Medford, Ore.-based chain opened its first location in Ashland, Ore. in 1998 and the company began franchising in 2002. Human Bean has been moving into California for the last decade. Just before opening its latest location in Lincoln City, Ore. on March 28, Human Bean opened its nearest location in in Rio Vista, Calif. in Solano County near Sacramento. The next closest location to the south is Lake Forest, Calif. in Orange County. In all, Human Bean has expanded to 87 locations in ten states, 74 of those being franchised locations and 13 being corporate locations. The Visalia location is owned by Fred Gibby of Exeter, Calif.
Human Bean will be located at 1331 W. Caldwell Ave. in Visalia.
