Momentum Broadcasting’s Kids to College project raises $75,000 to send 1,000 Visalia Unified students and a parent on a college visit
VISALIA – Visiting a college campus is often the moment that higher education becomes a real possibility for students whose parents never went. But even college visits can be something students and their parents are unable to afford.
That won’t be an issue for 1,000 Visalia Unified School District students next year after Momentum Broadcasting’s recent announcement that its Kids To College Project has raised over $75,000 this month. Momentum Broadcasting, owned by the Groppetti family, held a dinner and auction raising $28,000 which was matched with $25,000 by Groppetti’s G for Kids Foundation and another $23,000 from The Belay Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to ensuring that all student have equal access to quality education.
“The Kids To College Project is the first of its kind whose goal is to introduce the prospect of college to a student body largely unfamiliar with the opportunities an advanced education holds,” said Bill Lynch, General Manager of Momentum Broadcasting. “Many students in our local school district have no idea what a college is, what it looks like, let alone what the opportunities an advanced education affords them. This is the very first step in that process.”
The overall fundraising goal is $100,000, and Momentum Broadcasting is still seeking one more partner who can match at the $25,000 level. Any organization or individual interested in participating in this program should contact Bill Lynch at 559-553-1509, or by email at [email protected]
