Ernesto Ruiz, 62, lost control of his car and was ejected after crashing into several orange trees
DINUBA – A 62-year-old man was ejected from his car and impaled by an orange tree last week after crashing near Dinuba. The man didn’t die but hopefully will think twice about driving without his seatbelt on.
At 6:35 p.m. on April 12, Ernesto Ruiz, 62, of Dinuba was driving his 2016 Dodge Charger eastbound on Avenue 412 at an unknown speed. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Ruiz lost control of his car for an unknown reason and went off the north side of the road just east of Road 96. The car struck several mature orange trees and Ruiz, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was partially ejected from the driver window and was impaled by an orange tree limb.
Ruiz was transported to the Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia with major injuries. He arrived in critical, but stable, condition. The collision is pending further investigation and alcohol is suspected to be factor. Any information or inquiries may be routed to the Visalia area CHP.
Tulare man killed in motorcycle crash
At about 7:45 a.m. on April 15, CHP responded to a solo motorcycle versus tree collision on Avenue 272 east of Road 132 south of Visalia city limits. According to the CHP report, the motorcyclist, only identified as a 29-year-old male of Tulare, was riding a 2017 KTM motorcycle eastbound on Avenue 272 at an unknown speed. For unknown reasons, the motorcyclist veered off the south road edge onto the dirt shoulder near Road 132 where he collided with a large walnut tree and was ejected onto the ground.
The motorcyclist sustained major injuries and was transported via ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia. The motorcyclist, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, succumbed to his injures and was pronounced dead deceased about an hour after the crash. The investigation is ongoing and drug or alcohol impairment is not suspected at this time. Anyone with information should contact the Visalia area CHP office at 559-734-6767.
One killed, one injured in two-car crash
A 58-year-old Tulare man was killed and his passenger was critically injured last week during a two-car collision. The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was driving a 2009 Ford pickup westbound on Avenue 264 and came to a stop at the intersection of Road 164.
At 11:13 a.m. on April 17, the driver of the Ford pulled directly into the path of a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup heading northbound on Road 164, according to CHP, which struck near the driver’s side door of the Ford. The driver of the Ford, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 36-year-old male Andrew McBride of Tulare, was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with major injuries. The driver of the Dodge, 40-year-old Willem Du Plessis of Tulare, only suffered minor injuries and said he would seek his own medical treatment.
No one was arrested as alcohol/drugs do not appear to be a factor to this collision.
