Public is invited to county redistricting meetings

Dates and times are announced for redistricting listening sessions in county districts 3, 4 and 5

TULARE COUNTY – The shape of the county’s supervisor districts will be different in light of the 2020 census numbers. Between this month and next the public is invited to see how things might change.

It was announced last week that the 2021 Advisory Commission on Supervisorial Redistricting for Tulare County is holding informational listening sessions in district 3, 4 and 5. Districts 1 and 2 held their meeting on June 17 and July 1.

Each meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and community members may attend on the following dates and locations:

  • Thursday, July 15 – District 3: Visalia Convention Center Exhibit Hall, 303 E. Acequia Ave.
  • Thursday, July 29 – District 4: Parks & Community Services Recreation Center, 1390 E. Elizabeth Way, Dinuba
  • Thursday, Aug. 12 – District 5: CHMA Community Center, 466 E. Putnam Ave., Porterville

Every ten years, county supervisorial districts use new census data to redraw district lines to reflect how the local population has changed. Districts are drawn so that they are substantially equal in population; the U.S. Census data to be used is expected to be released around Sept. 30, 2021. For the county of Tulare, the redistricting process must be completed by Dec. 15, 2021.

All meetings will be held in accordance with California Department of Public Health guidance. Every effort is being made to accommodate different applicable languages. Anyone who needs live Spanish translation should inform staff upon entering the meeting. Anyone who requires translation into a language other than Spanish is requested to contact the county at least 48 hours prior to the meeting so that translation services can be arranged. Childcare can also be provided upon request.
