TULARE COUNTY – Two dead bodies were pulled from the Friant-Kern Canal last week, only further underscoring the danger of falling into the canal.
According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, just after 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 21, the Sheriff’s Office swift water rescue dive team was called to the area of Avenue 208 and Road 228 near Strathmore for a possible body in the canal. When they arrived, divers pulled a body out of the canal.
Just two days prior, on the evening of Friday, Nov. 19, deputies were called to the canal for a vehicle in the water. The Sheriff’s Office dive team immediately responded, as well, and later recovered a body downstream. At 2:45 p.m. deputies were called to Earlimart Middle School on East Sutter Avenue in Earlimart for a student possibly having a gun. When deputies arrived, they were told that a 12-year-old boy had pulled out what appeared to be a BB gun and showed it to another student. That student then alerted staff members at the school, who called 9-1-1. During their investigation, deputies determined the gun was a replica. The boy was suspended and the case will now be submitted to the district attorney. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Mike Boudreaux wants to take this opportunity to remind everyone that crimes like these will be taken “very” seriously by the Sheriff’s Office, and those who make threats against schools will be held responsible.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., deputies were called to Linnel Camp in Farmersville to check the welfare of a woman who had contacted Sheriff dispatch. During the investigation, deputies contacted a woman who had an outstanding warrant. As they searched her, deputies found a white substance on her. Immediately after that, the deputy began feeling sick and showed symptoms of possibly being exposed to fentanyl. The deputy was taken to an area hospital for further evaluation. The woman in possession of the substance has been detained and will be arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
