Unidentified man speeds into back of 2009 International box truck killing him on impact
TULARE COUNTY – Speed can kill, but especially if the driver drives right into the back of a semi-truck.
According to a California Highway Patrol (CHP) collision report on Dec. 16, at 3:30 a.m., officers from the Visalia area office responded to a traffic collision on Road 112 south of Avenue 164, with medical personnel responding. During the initial investigation it was determined Cory McGill, 41, from Tulare, was driving a 2009 International box truck was traveling southbound on Road 112, south of Avenue 164.
A 2017 Toyota sedan, driven by an unidentified man from Tipton, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed directly behind the International. Due to the Toyota’s unsafe speed, the driver of the Toyota was unable to avoid crashing into the rear of the International.
The driver of the 2009 International sustained a minor injury to his back but wasn’t transported for emergency care. The driver of the 2017 Toyota sustained major injuries and was transported to Kaweah Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Alcohol has not been ruled out as a factor in the crash.
