A movie set and filmed in the city of Porterville, of which it is also named, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime

PORTERVILLE –  A new sheriff in town cracks down on crime in a newly-released film that spotlights the city and features a former Porterville police officer.

The new movie that is set and filmed in Porterville is now available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime. The film “Porterville” is about a former New York City police officer who leaves the city for a small town in California after tragedy strikes his family. Once he arrives in Porterville, he becomes the new sheriff tasked with ending a string of murders causing a disturbance in the town.

“I liked everybody there. I thought it’d be a great place to film. That’s why I called it ‘Porterville’,” writer, producer and lead actor of the film Christopher Young said. “It’s got a great name (for a movie) anyway, and the cost of filming is a lot less than doing it in Los Angeles.”

According to Young, he chose to make Porterville the setting of his movie after doing a documentary in Porterville that he ultimately shelved.

“Porterville,” took about a month to film and was shot in various parts of town including the First Congregational Church and Sierra View Hospital. Young explained that the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department gave him opportunities to film with the police cars and the canine unit. He said the movie also features former Porterville police officer Gracie Johnson as herself.

The film also includes names such as Taryn Manning, Cody Renee Cameron, Shane Watson, Mike Ferguson and Caitlin O’Connor. As for the film itself, this is Young’s first time being the writer, producer and lead actor in a film but he has previously held various roles in other movies such as “Money Train,” “Fatal Charm” and “In Too Deep.”

On top of producing, writing and acting in the film, Young also financed the film himself. When asked about the cost of the project explained that it was a significant investment.

“I really don’t want to discuss money… I’d say nothing cheap,” Young said. “Let’s just put it this way: the hotel cost me over $35,000. Just for the hotel to house everybody.”

As of report, the action/western movie is available to rent on Amazon Prime for $3.99 and purchase for $7.99.
