Fourth annual Woodlake Lions Rodeo kickoff offers unique experience for developmentally-disabled participants, with full weekend of traditional rodeo activities to follow

WOODLAKE — The Woodlake Lions Rodeo is set to launch its 69th annual celebration with a special event dedicated to inclusivity and community engagement.

The fourth annual “High-Five Rodeo,” happening on Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m., offers developmentally-disabled individuals from Tulare County a chance to experience the rodeo lifestyle.

Held at the Woodlake Lions Rodeo Grounds, the High-Five Rodeo will feature over 80 participants engaging in rodeo-inspired activities tailored to their abilities. These activities include stick-horse barrel races, dummy steer head roping and horse riding, all under the guidance of professional cowboys and cowgirls, including members of the California Junior Cowboys Association and 2024 Miss Woodlake Lions Rodeo.

The event coincides with media day, providing an opportunity for media representatives to capture the excitement and cover both the special and regular rodeo events. Attendees will have access to interviews and photo sessions with rodeo personnel, including Spencer Rose Coughlin, a renowned trick roper from Exeter, Calif.

The traditional rodeo events will continue over the weekend, with gates opening at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12. The rodeo performances are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. each day, promising a full lineup of competitive rodeo action.

Sponsors such as Boot Barn, Woodlake Drive-In and Las Espuelas support the High-Five Rodeo, ensuring participants receive prizes for their accomplishments during the event.
