Lindsay woman arrested for swindling elderly neighbor out of $12,000

Sheriff’s deputies arrest Loretta Gomez on charges of elder abuse among other crimes that occurred in 2018

TULARE COUNTY – Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Lorette Gomez from Lindsay on charges of elder abuse last week.

The Sheriff’s department stated that in April of 2018, deputies were called to a home in Lindsay for a report of elder abuse. There were reports that Gomez, 60, was taking advantage of her 98-year-old neighbor by claiming she was taking care of him. In a statement from the Sheriff’s office, “after much investigation, it was determined through financial records, that Gomez had stolen about $12,000 from the victim.”

According to the Sheriff’s office, most of the transactions were done using the victim’s debit card and some checks. The case submitted to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office in January of this year. A felony warrant for Gomez’s arrest was issued on March 23 with a bail amount of $50,000 for charges of elder abuse, theft by credit/debit card, identity theft and grand theft.

Just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 17, deputies arrived at Gomez’s home with the warrant for her arrest in hand. She was detained without incident. Gomez was booked at the Tulare South County Detention Facility and is being held on $50,000 bail.
